Should You Consider a B 12 Injection?

by Wendy on June 24, 2010

In the last few years, b12 injections have been generating quite a bit of buzz.  Between medical science discovering a connection between low levels of vitamin b 12 in the body and disease to celebrities singing the praises of their regular b12 injection, this once very unsexy vitamin is gaining in popularity.

What is all the fuss about?  Can vitamin b 12 injections really make such a difference in your health that they are work the expense and hassle of getting regular b12 shots?

For many people, the answer is a surprising yes! Here is my story and why I am such a big believer in b 12 injections!

My Experience with Taking a Regular Vitamin B 12 Injection

I am a big believer in taking b12 injections, and here is why.  As I have gotten older, I have always had a very strong belief in doing everything I can to protect my health.  Sadly, my beliefs have not always resulted in execution.

My boys were born 14 months apart.  After a very difficult pregnancy with my first son, colic, nursing while pregnant and then nursing my second son, to say my body was depleted was an understatement.  In addition to this, I had quite a bit of weight to lose.  I went to my doctor who helped me develop a plan, and also suggested a b 12 injectable.  From the very first shot, I was completely shocked at how I felt.  I had energy that I hadn’t felt in years!  (And with two babies, I needed energy!)

I took the b 12  shots for a while, and during this time I lost 36 pounds.  My skin and hair glowed and my husband proudly announced that I hadn’t looked better in years.  Gone were the bouts of depression that I was prone to and I generally felt capable of dealing with my fast-paced and stressful life.

I don’t think I made the connection between everything that was happening in my life and the b 12 injections – I just knew they made me feel better and that life was going well.

Then we moved, and things got so busy that I never took the time to find another doctor.  A few years went by and slowly the weight crept back.  The real estate bust and mortgage melt down destroyed our business and my life ended up in a downward spiral.  Stress got the best of me and I found myself “eating my emotions” more often than not.  Unfortunately, taking care of myself took a back burner for a long while.

One day I woke up and realized that I couldn’t go on the way I was.  I felt like a shadow of my former self and I knew it was time to make some changes. When I look back now, I realize that I was experiencing many b12 deficiency symptoms.

So, I found a doctor and went in and requested a b 12 injection.  She agreed that I should take b 12 injections on a weekly basis, and suggested I alternate between regular b 12 injections, and a b12 shot combined with lipotropic shots.  This is a vitamin cocktail that helps enhances liver function and speeds up the removal of fat from the liver.  This is believed to speed up the body’s ability to rid itself of fat.

Now, this might seem like hype, but I lose 10.4 pounds the first week!  Now OBVIOUSLY I worked my butt off to do this.  I joined a gym, and got an iPhone App (My Net Diary if you are interested) and tracked everything I ate.  Again, I felt better almost instantly when I got the first b 12 injection.  Each week I noticed a slight improvement in how I felt.

Finding the time to go to the doctor every week is a challenge for me, so I got the doctor to give me injections that I could take home with me.  My husband was able to give me the shots with no problem at all.  (He did watch a few utube videos to learn how!)

Since this time, I have enjoyed steady weight loss.  I wish I could say it continued at 10 pounds a week, but we all know that isn’t sustainable.  I firmly believe that the b 12 injections played a major role in my ability to lose weight and get my health back on track.  The extra energy helped me commit to a long term fitness program and while I still have a ways to go, I know I will get there!

I highly recommend that you try a b12 shot – especially if you are experiencing any vitamin b12 deficiency symptoms.
